Two more collisions on local motorway networks bring further congestion

FOLLOWING on from this morning’s collision on the M6 near Winwick involving a bridge strike and large spillage, two further incidents on the M6 and M56 near Warrington have brought further congestion to the local motorway networks.

Shortly after 2pm traffic was stopped The M6 southbound at J20 Lymm Services due to a collision. Traffic Officers and emergency services attended at the scene.
All lanes have since re-opened.

Meanwhile, the M56 eastbound J10 (Warrington Northwich A49) to J9 LymmInterchange M6 2 lanes have been closed due to a collision. Traffic Officers are currently at scene, Recovery are on their way to the area to assist.
Severe delays in excess of 60 minutes are continuing on the M6 southbound in south Lancashire/Greater Manchester between J26 Orrell Interchange (Skelmersdale, Liverpool, Southport M58) and J22 Winwick Interchange (Warrington A49) due to two incidents.



Two lanes (of three) are closed between J23 Haydock Interchange (Manchester, Liverpool, Newton-le-Willows A580) and J22 following a bridge strike resulting in debris in the road and road surface damage. Related to this within J22 one lane (of three) is closed after the vehicle which struck the bridge pulled over due to damage and has leaked a large amount of hydraulic liquid onto the road surface.
Bridge inspections and emergency repairs are underway as well as recovery and clean-up work.
Officers from National Highways, North West Motorway Police and maintenance contractors are on scene at both incidents.
Road users bound for Manchester and the M60 or M62 are urged to exit at J30 or J29 and take the M61 south to bypass the delays.
