WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols criticised the Government’s economic record in a Budget speech.

In Tuesday’s parliamentary debate on the Budget, the Warrington North MP laid into the Government’s economic record, suggesting it was not worthy of its reputation for economic competence.
The MP listed the Government’s economic failures over the last decade, ranging from the underfunding of public services and the size of the tax burden to cuts to Transport for the North and the abolition of the Industrial Strategy Council.
Since being elected to Parliament in 2019, Charlotte has spoken about economic issues as a member of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee. This is relevant close to home, with Ms Nichols focusing on the Government’s failure to take advantage of new nuclear, at the expense of industry in Warrington.
In addition, as Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on pubs Charlotte has been a champion for the pub sector, including in Tuesday’s speech in which she castigated the Government for giving pubs ‘expensive obligations, unscientific restrictions’ and eliminating their custom.
Ms Nichols said: “For many years, the Conservatives have been able to manufacture a reputation for economic competence, despite years of continued mismanagement. But as the full effects of their economic choices are felt, this will soon change.
“There is nothing economically competent about cutting the pay of NHS staff while wasting £37bn of public money on a failing Test and Trace system. We deserve better.”
