Greens call for “immediate halt” to Peel Hall plans

WARRINGTON and Halton Green Party are calling for an immediate end to plans to build on Peel Hall in the north of Warrington.
Peel Hall is a unique and diverse habitat for birds, insects, and mammals and bats, they say.
Warrington Nature Conservation have identified seven red list species and seven amber list species at the site. Its value as a grassland and woodland carbon sink cannot be understated especially as it’s one of the last accessible green spaces that’s available to residents in the north of the town.
Green Party Parliamentary candidate for Warrington North Lyndsay McAteer: “All of us need a place that we can go to wind down and reconnect with nature. Green spaces like Peel Hall are essential for our physical health and mental wellbeing.
“We want to abolish financial measurements of wealth (like GDP) and replace them with a wellbeing index. Quality of life, and not financial wealth, should be the performance indicators of the future.
“I was fortunate enough to visit Peel Hall recently and I was privileged to see the beauty and biodiversity of the area myself. Peel Hall needs to be removed from the Local Plan. The Labour-led borough council needs to be called to account so that the area can be protected from future development.
“Green Party members in Warrington will certainly be helping the campaign group to get their messages across to the upcoming planning inquiry and we stand shoulder to shoulder with the Peel Hall campaigners in their opposition to destroy this precious green space.”
