LIBERAL Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South Ryan Bate officially launched his General Election campaign with a pledge to always put local people first.
The Warrington-born teacher who studied at Lymm High School and has been a borough councillor at Grappenhall since 2016 stressed the importance of the coming election.
He said: “Voters in Warrington South have a real choice in the General Election. They can go for the same old parties of the past or they can vote Liberal Democrat to stop Brexit and build a brighter future. I cannot remember a more important election in my lifetime.
Coming from Warrington, I understand the issues facing the town. Successive Labour and Tory MPs have left many constituents without a voice. I will always put the people of Warrington South first.
“I have been instrumental in the fight against the Local Plan and the major developments threatening the communities and green spaces of South Warrington. I have gained a reputation for speaking my mind and sticking up for constituents.
“As a child I walked or cycled around the countryside in the places now threatened by development. I am not against development, but I am in favour of public participation. The planning system is broken, not just in Warrington.
“Sorting out our planning and infrastructure mess will be one of my top priorities if elected”
Cllr Bate said he had a deep appreciation for the NHS and making sure doctors and nurses have the resources and facilities to do their work to the best of their abilities. That is why a Lib Dem government would place an extra penny in the pound on income tax to raise around £6 billion extra per year for health and social care.
He said: “As a teacher who has worked in state schools throughout my teaching career, I know that amazing teachers often succeed in spite of the system rather than because of it. Education has been an under-funded political football for far too long. Schools, early years’ providers and further education colleges need properly funding.
“We will make an emergency investment of an additional £2.5 billion per year into schools, over and above the government’s commitments. We will also close the gap between school and college funding. It’s also vital to recognise the importance of lifelong learning and I am delighted the Liberal Democrats will give everybody the funding they need to access education throughout their lives through personal education and skills allowances.”
