EMERGENCY services were involved in a dramatic rescue on Bride Foot bridge near Warrington town centre earlier today.

It appeared to involve a female hanging over the side of the bridge over the River Mersey.

Police officers appeared to be clinging to the female who was eventually brought to safety and taken away in an ambulance.

Police, ambulances and fire services attended at the scene.

Warrington Police later issued the following statement:”E Block officers have safely managed an incident on Bridgefoot roundabout this afternoon.

“We would like to thank those members of the public that assisted. The prompt action from all, helped to save a vulnerable person from injury. The female was detained under the Mental Health Act, to ensure that she receives the right help and medical assistance that she needs. We apologise for any delays that this may have caused.

“No other persons were injured and it was a great team effort between Police, Fire & rescue, Ambulance and also the members of the public that initially intervened.

“Mental Health is a serious topic and as many as 1 in 4 of us are affected by some form of Mental Health. If you or anyone you are close to are either concerned about Mental Health or you just need someone to reach out to, there’s an endless number of charities and organisations available, some of which have links to on the Cheshire Police Website.

“Please look out for each other!”
