A NEW gardening club for volunteers has launched and will be taking place at Warrington’s Walton Hall and Gardens

The club will meet every Wednesday from 9.30 am – 12.30 pm until October – and the first session has already taken place.

Anybody with an interest in gardening is invited, whether a complete beginner, experienced or  fully fledged. Come along to the club and join Walton Hall’s ground maintenance team in soil preparation, planting seeds and bulbs, pruning or carrying out general gardening maintenance, from Spring through to Autumn.

All tools and equipment are provided as well as a car park pass for the day. All volunteers need to take is waterproof clothing and suitable footwear.

There’s no need to book – just turn up.

Cllr Tony Higgins, the borough council’s lead member for culture, leisure and community, said: “The Wednesday Gardening Club is a fantastic new initiative for anyone – from those who are keen gardeners, to those who haven’t done it before, but would like to get some experience.

“This is a great opportunity to keep one of our most attractive parks in tip top condition for all of our visitors to enjoy.

“It’s free, and it’s a healthy outdoor activity. You’ll meet new people, learn new skills and make a valuable contribution towards the upkeep of Warrington’s much loved public park. I encourage you to give it a try.”
