Firm named to build new Penketh fire station

CHESHIRE Fire Authority has named the firm awarded the contract to build a new fire station at Penketh, Warrington.
The authority has awarded the contract to international construction company ISG plc and work will start on the project later this month.
Authority chairman Cllr John Joyce said: “We are delighted to be working with ISG on this exciting programme, which will ensure that we continue to protect communities across Cheshire despite the financial challenges we are facing.
“ISG have an excellent track record of working with blue light services and have also committed to creating training and employment opportunities for local people, which was a key factor in our decision to work with them.
“This investment will help us to continue the major reductions in fire and injuries we have achieved in recent years and we look forward to seeing the extensive benefits it will bring when completed next year.”
The lightweight steel frame structure, will include a green sedum roof to complement the station’s location and enhance the building’s sustainable credentials.

ISG and the scheme will also focus on bringing social and economic benefits to the local community via training, apprentice and direct employment opportunities with the aim of creating a lasting skills legacy.  ISG has also demonstrated to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service its commitment as a company to promoting equality and diversity.
ISG have also been declared as the service’s preferred contractor to build two other new Stations in Lymm and Powey Lane, Mollington, close to the M56.
Fire Authority Members will meet shortly to make a final decision on those contracts.
