SOME of Warrington’s largest organisations have come together to launch the first ever Warrington Festival which kicks off in the town next week.
LiveWire, Warrington Borough Council, Warrington Wolves, Culture Warrington, Warrington Collegiate and Contest Sports have teamed up to offer a range of activities during September which celebrate sport, culture and entertainment.
Highlights during the month long festival include a headline performance by Pixie Lott at Bank Park, The English Half Marathon and 10K, LiveWire Mile, Medieval Market, Jimmy Carr at Parr Hall and the 160th Anniversary of Warrington Museum.
Warrington Festival has also just got bigger with brand new activities now confirmed. LiveWire will provide free swimming for children when they bring an adult at their leisure centres on Saturdays during September and Warrington’s libraries will run Harry Potter events as part of the festival. These additions to the programme means the festival now offers more than 25 events over 25 days, many of them free to attend.
The festival will officially be launched on Saturday, September 5 at 11am with a cycle festival and open day at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub for the whole family. This will include a duathlon, mile cycling challenge, outdoor sports and activities and free swimming for children.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, Leader of Warrington Borough Council said: “Building on the success of Warrington being the official host town for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, Warrington Festival is set to bring the whole town together. The festival is unique in its offer of sport, culture and entertainment events which ensure there is something in the programme to suit the whole family”.
