A WARRINGTON parish council has lodged strong objections to a plan to convert a former video store into a “craft bar” selling speciality beers.
Stockton Heath Parish Council has objected to the plan to change the use of the former Blockbuster video store in Walton Road, Stockton Heath.
They say the change would not positively contribute to the diversity of the village shopping centre as there are four other drinking establishments nearby.
It would also result in an unacceptable loss of a retail unit, resulting in a loss to the daytime retail economy and would not add to the cultural provision in the village.
It would certainly be unsuitable for young people and children, the parish council believes.
Planning officers are recommending the proposal – for a “craft real ale bar” – be accepted however.
The development would result in two full time and three part time jobs being created and the Government is committed to securing economic growth in order to create jobs and prosperity. The new bar would add to the diversity of food and drink provision but would result in a lesser volume of traffic than a retail shop.

Craft and real ale are two separate definitions – there are many described as craft beers which do not fit CAMRA’s definition of real ale.
