New bus shelter and bus stop for Poulton North

A NEW bus shelter is to be installed outside the Spar shop on Hilden Road, and a new bus stop created on Orange Grove as part of improvements in Poulton North.
The shelter is part of next stage of Warrington Borough Council’s investment process in roadside infrastructure, utilising LTP and LSTF capital funding.
Cllr Geoff Settle said: “After a long wait for bus shelters over many years the first phase saw 5 shelters installed in Poulton North 2 were installed at the entrances to the University of Chester’s Padgate Campus on Fearnhead & Crabb Lane and 3 along Harpers Road. The 2nd phase will see the new shelter and bus stop delivered in October.
“For the latest phase I joined the Chair of Brook Acre residents association and the Transport Services Manager this week to seek agreement about the position of the new shelter on Hilden road. Everything was fine and as the SPAR post office is being upgraded the new shelter is arriving just in time for the new business.”
The Orange Grove bus stop comes after seven years of campaigning from residents, who say that it will be used by a lot of elderly residents several of whom have difficulty crossing the road.
As part of the work dropped kerbs and tactile paving will be incorporated in the design to make crossing safer and easier everyone especially the disabled and visually impaired residents.
Cllr Settle added: “I have been working hard to get this done for a number of years. I did receive confirmation that it would go ahead last year but unfortunately the capital grant allocated in the budget ran out.
The residents are very pleased to hear the good news and the Transport Services Manager demonstrated where the changes would be made by spraying the kerb and grass. I am also happy with the changes made to consult more during this phase.”
Longbarn residents have also been met by the Specialist Transport Services Manager to address concerns over a shelter on Harpers Road which is apparently “facing the wrong way.”
The reason for it is to protect passengers from the prevailing wind and rain as well as spray from passing vehicles. The agreed solution has been to cut back the hedge and lay a black strip to increase the gap to enable people with push chairs to pass easily by.
