WARRINGTON people are being sought to put themselves forward as potential members of the “council of governors” of Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Trust, which provides health care across Warrington, Wigan, St Helens, Halton and Leigh, will shortly be holding elections for its governors’ council after backing was secured from the NHS Trust Development Agency for Bridgewater to progress to the final stages of its application to become a Foundation Trust.
Governors will provide an essential link between Bridgewater’s 9,200-plus public members and its board and will ensure their views will be represented at the highest level within the Trust.
Chairman Harry Holden said: “As a Foundation Trust we are able to establish a council of governors, elected by our members to represent their views.
“We are keen to ensure our governors can truly represent our local communities and welcome self-nominations from people living in the areas served by Bridgewater who are keen to contribute to an even better and stronger local NHS.”
Governors’ duties include shaping and endorsing the future strategies of the trust, holding the board of directors to account for the performance of the Trust, providing a link between the organisation and the different communities it serves and appointing the chairman and non-executive directors on the board.
Anyone interested in becoming a governor for Bridgewater must first register to become a member of the trust by completing an online form at www.bridgewater.nhs.uk or contacting the membership office at
membership@bridgewater.nhs.uk or 01942 482672.
Once a member further information about standing in the governor elections can be obtained by contacting John Ward, Trust secretary at john.ward@bridgewater.nhs.uk or calling 01942 482714.
Nomination papers should be returned by September 3.
Four governors will be appointed for the Warrington area.
