FOUR deserving community groups have received cash hand-outs thanks to the generosity of shoppers in Warrington.
Lifestyle Women’s Group has received £1,760 to provide yoga sessions for
women from across the area, and Liberty, a professional counselling
service for women who have experienced a crisis during pregnancy, has been awarded £2,000 towards their annual running costs.
In addition, Warrington Youth Club has been granted £966 to offer a range of sporting activities throughout the summer holidays and the Warrington Ethnic Community Association has received £1,500 towards the cost of the Warrington Mela in June – an event to celebrate and bring together the town’s many different cultures and communities.
The groups received the cash from the Co-operative’s Community Fund, a
pot of money accumulated by member customers opting to donate all or part
of their annual dividend to good causes in the area. The money is distributed by he Co-operative’s local area committees.
Hazel Remeika, The Co-operative’s Membership Manager for the North West,
said: “Supporting local communities has been an inherent part of the Co-
operative’s values and principles since the very beginning of the Co-operative movement.
“We are particularly proud of the Community Fund, as it demonstrates how
the generosity of our members can make a real difference in their local area, and now we have stores and branches in every postal area of the UK it makes it all the more relevant.”
