Risley prisoners in hostage drama

TWO prisoners were involved in a hostage incident at Risley Prison, near Warrington.
Prison officers moved swiftly to deal with the situation and no-one was hurt as a result of the incident.
Trained negotiators spoke to the prisoners involved.
A Prison Service spokesperson denied reports that members of the public had been held hostage and that there had been a major disturbance at the prison. But police were notified of the incident.
The spokesperson said: “Two prisoners were involved in a hostage incident at HMP Risley.
“Negotiators helped to resolve the situation quickly and no injuries were sustained. The police have been informed.”
Risley is a male Category C training prison with an integrated VP (Vulnerable Prisoner) regime with access to the sex offender treatment programme.
It has an operational capacity of 1,095.
