SIX student Beauty Therapists at Warrington Collegiate are celebrating after they scooped gold, silver and bronze positions in the UK Worldskills North West competition heats against the best in their fields.
More than 200 talented beauticians and therapists from across the North West competed for the top spots in regional heats of the competition testing students’ skills in beauty therapy, holistic therapy, media make up and nail technology.
Lesley Hill, curriculum manager for beauty and holistic therapy at Warrington Collegiate said: “We won in what was a very high scoring day of heats. Out of the four competitions we entered we were placed in three of them. All six impressed the judges with the students skills in personal presentation, health and safety, hygiene, performance of treatment and client care.We were especially thrilled when Laura Johnson who came second in beauty therapy Advanced was invited to train with the UQ squad for WorldSkills International in Brazil, 2015 following in the footsteps of former student, Rianne Chester.”
The 10 highest scoring winners across the country will be invited to compete in the national finals in Birmingham NEC in November 2013. They may even get the opportunity to represent their country against the best young beauticians in the world at the International Finals if selected.
On winning the overall competition, Lucy Taylor, said: “It was such a fantastic experience being part of an international competition and getting to showcase my work to industry professionals. It was a great opportunity and I’m so excited about hopefully getting through to the next stage.”
The college also impressed the competition organisers with its professionalism and efficiency, organisation and planning with the result that it was chosen to be the host college for WorldSkills/VTCT host for the north west.
