THIS Saturday, June 15 will be World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – and Warrington people are being urged to think about the older people and vulnerable adults in their communities.
The previous day (Friday) there will be an information stall at Warrington bus interchange between 10-2pm to raise awareness of how to recognise and report abuse, and to offer advice.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day takes place every year with the aim of raising awareness about abuse and neglect of older people.
Cllr Pat Wright (pictured), Warrington Borough Council’s executive member for health, well-being and adult services, said: “The council and the Safeguarding Adults Board are committed to ensuring that vulnerable residents are able to live safe and free from fear of abuse or victimisation.
“This information event is so important for raising awareness about abuse and neglect of older people and for encouraging people to feel confident to come forward and report any concerns.”
The Safeguarding Adults Board works to raise awareness of abuse and how to prevent and report it.
Anyone worried about an elderly family member or friend can contact the access social care team on 01925 444239 Mon-Fri 8.30-5pm, out of hours 444400 or the police on 101.
Information about staying safe can also be found on the council website at www.warrington.gov.uk/safeguarding
