MORE than 50 council staff will pull a 25 tonne refuse lorry from Warrington’s Golden Gates to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to raise money for St Rocco’s Hospice.
Staff from the Waste and Recycling Centre will start the Wagon Pull at the Town Hall at 11.20am on Sunday June 2, in teams of 25 with two large ropes.
Nigel Dearden, Waste and Recycling Supervisor at WBC, said: “It’s going to be a tremendous feat – there’s never been anything like it on the streets of Warrington! The team will all be dressed in Rocco’s T Shirts – so everyone will see a sea of yellow and green between Town Hall Gates and the Halliwell Jones stadium!
“We will be collecting for St Rocco’s at five points along the route as we are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the Hospice on the day.
“The lads at WBC have been fundraising for St Rocco’s for many years – it’s a charity that’s really close to our hearts. Everyone has their own reasons for supporting St Rocco’s and lots of us have personal experiences of the Hospice too.
“Overall we’ve raised around £36,000 so far by taking part in the St Rocco’s Dragon Boat race, the St Rocco’s Tree Collection and various other fundraisers. But this has to be the most challenging and spectacular feat we’ve we have ever done!”
Collections for St Rocco’s will take place at the following points: Town Hall Gates – Sankey Street, Bridge Street – Near the Lion Public House, Academy Way – Looking Glass Public House, Academy Way – Hop Pole Public House, Winwick Street – Halliwell Jones Stadium
