Campaign supports working families

A CAMPAIGN in support of working families said to be being hit hard by Government cuts was held in Warrington town centre.
The event was organised by Tom Jennings, chairman of Warrington Young Labour, and about 20 Labour volunteers took part.
These included the leader and deputy leader of the borough council, Terry O’Neill and Mike Hannon.
Nick Bent, who fought the Warrington South seat for Labour at the General Election, said: “It was a timely event as a raft of measures introduced by the Tory-Lib Dem Coalition came into effect this week.”
Mr Bent said hundreds of local people were spoken to during the event, including many who said they were personally being badly affected by the cuts being brought in by Cameron and Osborne.
He added: “The start of the new tax year has brought bad news for many working people, thanks to David Cameron and George Osborne. Tax credits and childcare support are being cut, despite many families already struggling to make ends meet.
“The catastrophic mismanagement of the economy by Cameron and Osborne means that prices and bills are rising faster than wages, nearly one million young people are unemployed and the welfare bill is rising.
“Of course, if you are lucky enough to earn over £150,000 then the Tory-Lib Dem government is giving you a big tax cut this week. At a time when the economy is stagnant and most families are struggling, this is deeply unfair.” Jane Whalen, chairman of the Warrington South Labour Party said: “The country is heading in the wrong direction under the Tories and Lib Dems.
“Labour has a credible and costed plan to stimulate the economy, get more people back to work and help working families.
“Our ‘One Nation’ approach is both fair and practical.”
