WARRINGTON Borough Council is launching its new Local Support Scheme next Monday (April 1) which replaces crisis loans and community care grants.
The scheme provides support to people in an emergency or disaster or when there’s a threat to someone’s health or safety.
It can help by providing food, essential home appliances, heating appliances, essential furniture, clothing for expectant mothers and babies and utility cards to help pay for bills at the Post Office.
As part of the government’s welfare reforms, crisis loans have been abolished and local authorities have set up their own schemes.
Cllr Russ Bowden, (pictured right) executive board member for corporate resources and assignments, said: “Warrington’s local support scheme has been designed to help people in the event of an emergency and enable people to return or remain in the community. We’ve had a fixed budget but are committed to make the best use of the funding available to support those in a crisis and protect the most vulnerable.”
