Car parking changes start today

CONTROVERSIAL changes to car parking arrangements in two of Warrington’s busiest village shopping centres come into force today.
Villagers at Stockton Heath and Lymm fought hard against the proposals, which are being imposed by Warrington Borough Council.
Town Hall chiefs say the changes will improve turn-over of vehicles on the car parks – but local people, including the parish councils at Stockton Heath, Appleton and Lymm – believe the changes are designed to offset big financial losses on the borough’s parking services overall.
They are particularly angry that car parks which formerly offered shoppers two hours free parking will now only offer one hour free.
The changes come into force on Monday (November 19)
Charges on the Forge car park, Stockton Heath, will be as follows: 0-1 hour Free; 1-2 hours £0.50p; 2-3 hours £1.00 3+ hours £2.00; No return within 2 hours unless 3+ hour ticket purchased.
Charges at Pepper Street, Lymm will be: 0-1 hour Free; 1-2 hours £1.00; 2-4 hours £2.00; 4+ hours £10. No return within 2 hours unless 4+ ticket is purchased.
Charges will be introduced for the first time on the Davies Way and Henry Street car parks in Lymm.
Davies Way charges will be: 0-1 hour Free; 1-2 hours £0.50p; 2-3 hours £1.00; 3+ hours £2.00. No return within 2 hours unless 3+ hour ticket purchased.
Henry Street charges will be: 0-1 hour Free; 1-2 hours £0.50p; 2-3 hours £1.00;
3+ hours £2.00. No return within 2 hours unless 3+ hour ticket purchased.
Disabled blue badge holders will continue to park on the above car parks free of charge as long as the badge is clearly displayed.
New operation hours will be Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm on all the car parks (free on Sundays and Bank Holidays).
