Police warning to motorists

POLICE at Warrington are to clamp down on motorists who ignore the rules of the road.
Residents of Orford have complained that drivers are continuing to use Smith Drive as a cut through – despite the fact it is now an access-only road with restrictions in place.
Officers will be carrying out enforcement activity on the road and any driver found to be breaking the restrictions will be issued with a fixed penalty notice.
Sergeant Paul Flynn said: “Smith Drive is clearly signposted ‘Except for Access’ and this means it should only be used by residents living in the street or if a driver is going to a specific destination in the street, such as visiting a house or business.
“Drivers should be sticking to the rules that are in place but it is clear that some motorists are still choosing to ignore this and are using Smith Drive and also Withers Avenue as a through road.
“Restrictions are put in place for a reason – drivers choosing to ignore those restrictions are breaking the law and causing considerable nuisance to residents.
“Action is being taken to educate and warn motorists who are disregarding the restrictions. Patrols have been stepped up in the area and officers will be monitoring the Smith Drive and Withers Avenue area at key times of the day. Anyone found to be breaking the law will be dealt with.”
