Put a smile on a shopkeeper's face

SHOPPERS in Warrington can now vote for their favourite retail outlets and eateries in a new awards scheme recognising retail excellence.
More than 120 stores will compete in the “Smile Retailer of the Year Awards” – with shoppers deciding who will claim the top prize.
Customers will vote for the stores they believe have gone the extra mile during their visit by voting using forms which can now be picked up at the customer service desk in the Mall.
Golden Square manager Ian Cox said the awards were more than just a test of customer services.
He said: “The Smile Awards will help to raise standards in retail not just in Golden Square but in Warrington Town Centre as a whole.
“Shoppers are more savvy than ever before and these awards will help encourage more retailers to offer the best possible shopping experience across the board.”
Customers who vote will also get the chance to play an integral part in the second stage of the awards on a “Shopper Jury”.
Twelve shoppers from across Warrington will be chosen to undertake mystery visits to the finalists before a winner is chosen.
Following the awards, a “Retail Academy” will be launched, offering free training from top industry professionals to help improve the retail offering even further.
The academy will also be opened to retailers across Warrington to help give them access to advice and support.
Mr Cox added: “We really hope customers get behind these awards, give us their honest feedback and in turn help us create an even better benchmark than already exists in Warrington.”
Voting closes on September 30 and short-listed retailers will be announced on October 7.
