AN intruder triggered a “smoke cloak” anti-burglar device at a Warrington town centre store – and in turn sparked off a fire alert.
Fire crews raced to the CEX computer games store in Sankey Street at around 8pm last night after passersby reported it was on fire.
But on arrival they found there was no fire – just dense smoke caused by the anti-intruder device.
Police were also called to the scene, but it is not known if the would-be burglar was arrested.
In a separate incident, three youths riding BMX bikes are belived responsible for a fire which destroyed a glass recycling bin on the car park at the Jolly Falstaff pub in Blackbrook Avenue, Padgate.
The three teenagers are believed to have used a cigarette lighter to start the blaze before riding off. Fire crews extinguished the fire, but the bin was virtually destroyed.
