Student research helps MP

A GROUP of Warrington students has offered its research findings and a resulting advertising campaign on an environmental project to an MP.
The advertising students from the Warrington Campus of Chester University undertook an advertising project designed to overcome negative attitudes towards offshore wind power.
Jordan Stachini, 22, Ceri-Anne Keely, 22 and Josh Ellis, 21, presented the results of their research to Mark Lancaster, MP for Milton Keynes North.
Jordan said: “As part of our project, we conducted research to discover how the benefits of offshore wind could be ‘re-branded’ for those currently opposed to this, as well as to devise an appropriate message to encourage support for this renewable alternative energy source.
“Mr Lancaster had a keen interest in meeting with us, due to his heavy involvement within his local constituency, where onshore wind farms are becoming ever more common, and where resistance to onshore wind farms is currently very high.
“The research that formed the basis of this presentation was completed as part of our second year Advertising and Society module, which required us to develop a campaign that would use advertising to change the world for the better by shaping public perception and behaviour in support of a beneficial social, political or economic objective.”
