A 17-year-old Warrington girl has been named “Young Ambassador for Great Britain and Ireland” by Lions Clubs International.
Charlotte Rose Smith, from Birchwood, won the title in competition with scores of others from all over the UK and Ireland at a two day event in Birmingham.
She was awarded the Lions’ Charles Forte trophy and a large sum of money which she will donate to needed causes of her choice.
The Birchwood Sixth Form College student has been involved with charity work for several years.
She has travelled to South Africa on several occasions and assisted with learning facilities at an orphanage, as well as helping other individuals and groups in her local community.
Charlotte will now travel to Brussels later in the year to take part in the European Lions Young Ambassador finals.
She said: “The most rewarding thing for me, is knowing that I have helped someone else and had an opportunity to work hard at something and achieve my goal.
“People will forget what you said, they may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. It is important to do a job with your heart as well as your head.”
Charlotte continues to perform her voluntary work both overseas and in Birchwood where she is often seen helping others along with her sponsoring club, Birchwood Lions.
