A FORMER Warrington library – closed because of borough council funding cuts – has been given a new lease of life offering books and a whole lot more.
Nearby residents were devastated when Great Sankey Library in Marina Avenue, closed in March.
But now Kings Church, based at nearby Penketh, has teemed up with the council to re-launch it as Kings Community Centre.
It now houses hundreds of books, ranging from classics to children’s. Membership is free and people can borrow up to three books.
But the fun does not stop there – there is also a free jigsaw lending service and a toy corner where parents can sit and chat while their children play.
Visitors can also enjoy a free tea or coffee while they relax in a lounge area with armchairs and settees.
The hall can be booked by members of the community for a small fee and already has several bookings for children’s parties.
Kings Community Choir meets at the hall on Tuesdays and other groups include a walking group and youth group.
Volunteers staff the centre from 10am to 2pm Monday to Friday. Anyone interested in finding out more about the centre can call in or ring 07970 329875.
