POLICE have uncovered a second cannabis factory in Warrington within the space of a week.
Drug squad office raided a house in Oldham Street, Warrington yesterday and found around 300 plants in various stages of growth in an upstairs bedroom and the loft.
The plants – and the equipment used to grow them – were seized and taken away for further forensic examination.
No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing.
Sergeant Elaine Duddle said: “This has been a significant find and fortunately, we have been able to put a stop to it. This was a fairly sophisticated set-up that we believe could have yielded a significant crop.
“We have seized all the relevant evidence from the property – maximising the opportunity to trace those responsible for the cannabis factory.
“This is a great result as we believe that these drugs could have been destined for the streets of Warrington.”
The raid was made possible as a result of information from the public which was passed on via the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline.
Inspector Sarah Heath, head of the Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said said: “We acted swiftly and positively in relation to information, which was passed onto us and, as a result, we have been able to put a stop to this illegal and anti-social behaviour.
“We know that illegal drugs can have a major impact on an area and it is an issue we take extremely seriously.
“Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious activity in their area – or to report any building they suspect is being used to grow Cannabis in. This sort of information is vital in the fight against drug related crime.”
It was the second cannabis factory to be discovered in Warrington within a week.
On Friday November 11, police made a similar discovery at premises in Greymist Avenue, Woolston.
Almost 70 plants of different sizes were discovered in an outbuilding on the site.
