MORE than 20 Warrington businesses pledged to offer apprenticeships when they attended a special event in the town.
Businesses from all over the borough attended the day, where they heard from employers who were already gaining the benefits from employing apprentices.
Leader of Warrington Borough Council Terry O’Neill said: “It was wonderful to see so many Warrington businesses coming together to find out how they can support the young people of Warrington.
“Apprenticeships can add real value to businesses especially at this time of economic constraints. They provide the opportunity for young people to access a meaningful career and give employers access to a wealth of talent.”

This is great news. I have recently held two Young Enterprise ‘Quick Start’ programmes one at Culcheth High School with two teams & one at Great Sankey High School. My colleague held a third at William Beamount High School. All teams that took part ended up learning about starting and running businesses. Hopefully we will be able to deliver to more young entrepreneurs in the future at a High School near you but we need to be fortunate first in securing the funding.
But I would like to thank my ‘A’ team of business people like Gary S, Paul Taylor, Judy from Bents, both incoming and out going Mayors and councillors for supporting me and the youngsters. I know the teams made a strong impression on you but most of all it was your observations and kind words of encourangement that ment so much to them and made me proud and happy that together we had got through the tough times to reap the rewards. I’m sure that the apprentices will reward their employers with the same enthusiasm. Just remember the Storiming, Norming and Performing prinipals and you won’t go far wrong – Thank You Dragons from all of us.
Where and when will these new apprenticeships be advertised so that youngsters can apply for them ?
They won’t be the real thing will they? the 4 years training – it will be an NVQ2 or 3 all done in 12 months – shame really because we need trades men and women in our town
