WARRINGTON born actress Sue Johnston, known for her roles in Brookside and the Royle Family, has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
She has been recognised for her services to drama and to charity.
Johnston, 65, played Sheila Grant for eight years in Brookside before becoming Barbara Royle in the BBC show.
Johnston who is a patron of Warrington Peace Centre said: “I am delighted and feel very honoured.
“I am only sorry that my parents are not here as they would have been so proud.”

Professor Peter Brandon of Lymm lately Director of Strategic Programmes, University of Salford received an OBE for services to the Built Environment.
Former Warrington police chief Graeme Gerrard, the deputy chief constable at Cheshire Constabulary was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal.
Meanwhile receiving the MBE were Hilary Steel for voluntary service to rugby league in north-west England and Emily Taylor, of Warrington, for voluntary service to St Rocco’s Hospice.
Also receiving an MBE are Deputy Leader of Warrington Borough Council Councillor Keith Bland for services to the community in Warrington and Leonard Andrews for voluntary service to Brass Band Music in Warrington.
