Police crack down on car gang

A POLICE operation to crack down on a gang targeting expensive cars in the Appleton area has been hailed a success.
No burglaries have been reported in the area since a team of marked and unmarked police cars started patrolling over a month ago.
Residents had been warned to be extra vigilant after nine burglaries and two attempted burglaries took place at the start of the year.
Police suspected a gang who were looking to steal prestigious cars by breaking into their owner’s homes to find the keys.
During the end of February and the start of March, police flooded the area in cars and on foot, stopping any suspicious vehicles and quizzing locals who had any information to give, Appleton Parish Councillors heard.
PCSO Dave Mahon said: “The operation has been a success in that we haven’t had any burglaries reported in the area for a month.
“We’re still asking residents to be vigilant and to make sure everything is locked away and to talk to their neighbours if they’re going on holiday. But we’re really pleased.”
He also told the meeting how a new neighbourhood watch group has been set up and how anti social behaviour hadn’t caused many problems over the previous four weeks, “I don’t have much more to tell you, which is good news, I suppose” he joked.
