WARRINGTON’S Helen Newlove – widow of tragic murder victim Garry Newlove – has been named Cheshire Woman of the Year.
Mrs Newlove won the award for her outstanding personal courage and contribution to her community.
Following her husband’s death in 2007, Helen and her daughters set up the Newlove Warrington Foundation which aims to improve the sense of community and opportunity across the region, helping to improve anti-social behaviour, inspire people and help motivate them to enrich their lives.
Sixty nominated women and their guests attended a lunch at Eaton Hall in Cheshire, where the result was announced.
As the overall winner of the prestigious title, Mrs Newlove was presented with a silver salver.
She said: “I’m pleased the work done through the Newlove Warrington Foundation has been recognised and I’m proud to receive the prestigious Cheshire Woman of the Year award.”
The event rewarded women with the recognition they deserved. It also raised money for the NSPCC, funding projects that will help end cruelty to children throughout Cheshire, the Wirral and across the UK.
Proceeds go towards the Child’s Voice Appeal which aims to raise £50 million over three years to help grow ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline.
Rachel Carter, NSPCC community fundraising manager said: “This event is in its 24th year and it is a fantastic way to celebrate the wonderful attributes and skills of women across Cheshire and the Wirral. Congratulations to all the nominees and to the overall winner Helen for all their hard work and achievements.”
Three other Warrington women were among the 60 nominated – community worker Daphne Eastburn from Culcheth and Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders, who run a women-only private hire car firm.

The sympathy vote is alive and well in Cheshire, twelve months high profile work is preferred to thirty years unsung dedication.
BTW, Mrs Newlove has had that many makeovers her husband would not recognise her.
It could have been worse – it could have been the pink people!
