STOCKTON Heath Parish Council has agreed to make a second grant towards the cost of major renovations at St Thomas’ Church.
Members agreed to the £750 grant, which follows an earlier grant of £1,000.
The Grade 2 Listed church, which dates from 1868, has extensive dry rot in the roof and repair work is expected to last about five months.
Estimated cost of the first phase or work are more than £300,000 while the second phase will cost nearly £250,000.
Grants have been obtained from English Heritage, the Cheshire Churches Preservation Trust and WREN – Waste Recycling Environmental.
The parish council has also agreed to make a grant of £100 to Hope House, which has hospices for terminally ill children in Oswestry and Conway.
