WARRINGTON-born oarsman Richard Egington returned to the town to show off the silver medal he won at the Beijing Olympics as part of the successful Men’s Eights team.
Richard, 29, dropped in at Priestley College where he studied some 10 years ago during the time when his passion for
rowing developed.
During his time as a student, Richard studied A-Levels in Sport, Chemistry and Biology before completing a University degree at Reading in Zoology.
Staff at Priestley, including curriculum manager for Sport and PE, Nigel Howells, have tracked Richard’s progress since leaving the college with great interest.
Niogel said: “I was delighted to see Richard back at Priestley decked out in Team GB clothing and of course his prized silver medal from Beijing.
“His own performance and that of Great Britain in general was truly motivational and for our current students it shows them what can be attained if they are prepared to have similar levels of dedication and commitment in areas in which they excel.”
Richard is now considering his options for London 2012 and has a range of big dates on the horizon where, among others, he will meet the Queen alongside the rest of Team GB, who finished a remarkable third in the medal table in Beijing.
