Edgar's art updates church magazine

ANCIENT and modern joined forces when a clergyman decided he wanted to update the parish magazine.
Father Michael Burgess, Rector at St Peter’s Oughtrington, had been planning to update the cover of the church’s magazine for some time.
But he was having problems settling on the right cover, until local artist Graham Edgar – of Lymm’s Edgarart studio – stepped in to help.
Fr Michael said: “Despite the many demands of his busy studio, Graham soon produced a new drawing which won the immediate backing of an enthusiastic Parochial Church Council.”
The rector has a collection of old magazine covers dating from 1904 when it cost just one “old” penny and had a reminder to readers that “all seats in church are free.”
Fr Michael said: “We are so grateful to Graham. He has really depicted the church we recognise with its landmark spire of 140 feet seen for miles around.”
The original is on view at Graham’s studio at 19b, The Cross Courtyard, Lymm.
