PLANS to build an “inappropriate” residential home at the expense of a church hall in Warrington have angered residents and a local councillor.
Fairfield and Howley ward councillor Paul Kenny (pictured) has blasted the plans to build a three-storey, 40-bedroom residential home in Orford as “simply unacceptable.”
The nursing home would be situated on land bounded by Norris Street, O’Leary Street and Venns Road, with the former Methodist church hall being demolished to make way for the development.
There will also be a significant loss of green space under the proposals, which has led residents to start a campaign against the building of the home.
Local resident Len Smith said: “On a daily basis we suffer from traffic congestion, noise and pollution and this development will add to that. Parking is a major issue for local residents and I know as a local shop owner that parking is a problem for my customers.”
Coun Kenny, who is fully supporting the residents’ campaign, added: “This is simply an unacceptable development in a residential area which already suffers from traffic congestion and parking problems.
“The scale of the development is of concern given the size of the land and the quality of life of nearby residents will be compromised.
“In my view the main access is totally inappropriate given the large number of houses on Venns Road serviced by a minor estate road.”
