A THIEF has escaped being sent to prison despite breaching a six-month suspended sentence when he stole from a shop in Warrington town centre.
Paul Prince, 32, from Sharp Street, Warrington, made off with £56.40 worth of baby clothes from a store in the Golden Square shopping centre, putting him in breach of the suspended sentence he received in July last year for handling stolen goods and being in possession of drugs.
He was made subject of a 12-month supervision order and ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation programme after pleading guilty at Warrington Crown Court to theft and the breach.
Sion Mihangel, prosecuting, told the court how Prince filled a basket full of children’s clothes, before entering toilets in the store and putting the six items in a black bag.
Prince then left the store without making any attempt to pay.
Just six days after the incident, which occurred in April this year, Prince received an eight-week custodial sentence suspended for two-year for another offence.
Stephen Kemp, defending, said Prince had a drug habit and took the clothes for his two-year-old son.
