RESTORATION of popular Stockton Heath beauty spot Ackers Pit has suffered a further setback.
Stockton Heath Parish Council had applied to environmental group WREN for a £24,000 grant for landscaping and other works.
But clerk Peter Briggs said the application had been turned down – one of 15 to be refused out of a total of 33.
He had been advised on the point scoring that the project had not scored “too highly” on community consultation, and that several people at WREN were aware of the difficulties of the project.
Mr Briggs said a landscaper had been appointed and work would start in mid-August and take approximately four to six weeks. He said money would be found from parish council funds.
He said: “We have got to get the work done. We have the money available so we should get on with it.
