VETERANS’ minister Derek Twigg has honoured more than 80 Warrington war veterans during a special ceremony in the town.
Organised by Warrington South MP, Helen Southworth, veterans from across the armed forces received the personal thanks of the minister for their dedicated work in serving the country.
Colonel Amlot, the Regimental Secretary of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment in Preston, and Lieutenant Colonel Harris from the 75th Engineers based at Peninsular Barracks in the town also attended.
A number of groups, such as Warm Front, Warrington Carers Team and the Home Assessment Team from Cheshire Fire Service, all attended to ensure the veterans had all the access to vital services they may need.
Mrs Southworth said: “I was delighted to host an event to celebrate Veterans Day here in Warrington.
“It is so important that we recognise the contribution that individuals have made to our society in keeping us safe during times of conflict. “The armed forces also make a huge contribution to civic society whenever there is a crisis or natural disaster with their organisation and logistics and I wanted to make sure all this is recognised and valued.”
Mr Twigg added: “The Veterans morning was an excellent event and I felt privileged and honoured to meet so many amazing veterans.”
