GCSE hopefuls' glimpse of the future

YEAR 11 pupils about to embark on their final GCSE examinations were given an insight into their future options at a “welcome day” at Warrington’s Priestley College.
The Loushers Lane campus was a hive of activity as more than 850 youngsters from across the region witnessed at first hand just what the college could offer them in terms of advanced level studies from September.
Each student was able to take part in three sample lessons to ensure they had made the right decisions about what they want to study when they enrol at the college.
The new intake of students will be the first cohort to experience yet further advances in facilities at the college. On the back of a £9 million pound investment programme, further upgrades will also take place this summer to the Learning Resource Centre and Wicked Cafe.
Highlight of the day for many was at the end when students were able to see themselves on film via a video that had been shot through the course of the event.
College principal Mike Southworth said, “Welcome Day is such a very special event for us here at Priestley and I was delighted to welcome so many new and excited young learners to campus.
“With a range of further refurbishment work taking place during the summer, the new students will be best placed to excel within an environment geared towards attaining excellence.”
