Students' city of culture website

ADVERTISING students from the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester have joined forces with an independent art gallery to produce a website as part of Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture Year.
The advertising programme was approached by the Curve Gallery in Victoria Street, Liverpool, with an opportunity for students to design a website representing the gallery’s philosophy and brand.
Designed by Claire Armstrong, Katie Hogan, Nicole Montague and Kerry O’Dwyer, who received a £50 prize, the website has been launched at www.curvegallery.co.uk
Multimedia module leader Kate Sillitoe said: “The university’s advertising programme is committed to ensuring that students are prepared for the competitive world of advertising. Working with a real client has allowed the students to develop their creative and technical skills, while promoting a high standard of professional practice.”
The students were tasked with designing an online presence for the gallery that would complement and support their overall marketing plans through the application of the principles, strategies and practices of multimedia technology.
As well as providing the gallery with effective corporate communications and advertising materials, the students developed practical “hands-on” skills in the use of multimedia and digital technology by executing a brief in a way that highlighted both the creative possibilities and technical constraints of web-based media.
Curve Gallery owner Wayne Heaton added: “It was a pleasure to collaborate with the enthusiastic students and staff. Their professional approach to this project has resulted in an advanced website that represents Curve Gallery’s aspirations to be a leading independent contemporary project space.”
