POLICE raided the home of a drug addict in Warrington and found packages of illegal substances scattered around the house.
Officers found six packages and three joints of cannabis at the home of Daniel Lockley in Willoughby Close, Old Hall, totalling a quantity of 17 grams, Warrington Crown Court was told.
Lockley, 23, pleaded guilty to possessing the drug with intent to supply.
He was given a 26-week prison sentence, suspended for two years and ordered to complete 120 hours unpaid work.
Judge Thomas Teague criticised young users who take the consequences of cannabis lightly and described them as “ignorant”.
They should realise the serious consequences of using the drug, he said.
The court heard how Lockley, who had previous drug convictions going back to when he was 16, had been buying the drugs at a wholesale price and keeping them at his house.
Michael Davies, defending, told the court Lockley was not buying the drugs to supply them commercially, but simply for his friends to obtain the drugs cheaply because he was the only one in the group who had access to a supply.
He had been using the drug since the age of 14 but had now stopped.
Judge Teague told Lockley: “Most people go to prison straight away for quite a long time for an offence of this nature and this is your second conviction. You were lucky not to go to prison on the first occasion.”
