FIVE students will be flying out on a mercy mission to India to help in some of the country’s poorest schools.
Rhiannon Finn, 18, Aaron Richie, 18 and Jennifer Dailey, 17, all from Culcheth, will take part in the month-long trip to the North Indian regions of the Himalayas and Rajasthan this summer.
The trip, which has been organised and run by World Challenge, will see the group re-building fences in local schools and painting murals as part of their daily activities.
Rhiannon explained: “When we first heard about the trip in college I really wanted to go because I have never done anything like this before.
“I think it will definitely be a life-changing experience and we are all extremely excited about the adventure.”
Two others from Warrington, Robert Pyman, 18, from Croft and Nick Bloomfield, 18, from Locking Stumps, will join a group of 21 students from Winstanley College.
Funding the trip hasn’t been easy it costs £3,000 each to make the journey to India for a month.
The group have held numerous fundraising events to raise enough money to go, as well as taking up part-time jobs.
Rhiannon added: “We held a cabaret evening last year which we manage to raise £850 from and we have also done bag packing. I think everyone has managed to get enough money together, especially with parents chipping in for the last few hundred pounds!”
All five of the Warrington representatives will fly out from Heathrow Airport on June 27, returning home on July 26.
