Soap star boost for charity

A STAR of soap-land is visiting Warrington to help a special charity celebrate their 25th anniversary.
Sam Aston, better known as Chesney from Coronation Street, will be visiting the Warrington RSPCA Centre on June 15 to kick start their New Cattery Small Animal Centre fun day in celebration of their 25th birthday.
Soap fans are more used to seeing him with canine side-kick Schmeichel, but in real life Sam actually owns four cats!
A voluntary dog walker at the RSPCA centre works on the Corrie set and thought Sam would be the perfect celebrity to help the charity celebrate and raise awareness.
Activities on the day will include a tombola, barbeque and raffle, with the fun starting at 12pm and ending at 4pm.
Christine Roberts from the centre said: “The centre was built on a ‘shoestring’ some 25 years ago and there has been a desperate need of a new cattery and miscellaneous facility for a long time now. The new facilities are the result of four years planning and raising funds.
“The original cost was around £320,000 which more than doubled so that is why we are now desperate to raise funds.”
The branch covers a number of areas including the whole of Warrington, Frodsham and St Helens.
