Warm weather warning for home owners

HOME-owners in Warrington are being told to be on their guard against opportunistic thieves looking take advantage of the warmer weather.
Cheshire police are urging the town’s residents to be on their guard against possible warm weather thieves who make the most of the extra open windows and back doors this summer.
Detective Inspector Matt Durkin said: “An unlocked, or open, window or door is all the invitation these burglars need.
“They are adept at getting in and out of houses quickly so if you do leave your house – even only for a very short time – make sure all windows are closed and locked or, at the very least, use the security measures on modern windows, which allow them to let some air in but still be locked. All external doors should be secured at all times, even when you are at home.”
He added: “We are reducing the number of burglaries in the Warrington area and we are catching and prosecuting more and more culprits.
“But we need members of the public to remain vigilant and to address their own home security measures to make life even more difficult for those who seek to profit from criminal activity.”
Anyone with any information regarding burglaries, or wanting to report suspicious behaviour, should contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000.
