POLICE in Warrington delivered a crushing blow to drug dealers today as they proved crime really doesn’t pay.
A low loader truck was being driven through the streets of the town containing two vehicles officers had seized in connection with the supply of drugs.
One was a top-of-the-range Audi A3 sports car, and the other was a crushed lump of metal suitable for nothing other than scrap.
The aim of the campaign was to highlight the consequences of being involved in this sort of criminal activity.
Detective Inspector Martin Cleworth said: “The message we are sending out is quite clear – there is no long-term profit in the illegal drugs industry. Those who supply drugs often have high performance cars and appear to be living the high life. But our display shows it is only a matter of time before the police – and partner agencies – will bring this crashing down and turn their prized possession into a piece of scrap metal.”
Messages were sent via Bluetooth to mobile phones in range notifying them when the vehicle was passing through.
DI Cleworth added: “Information we gather from local people can be vital in bringing prosecutions against those involved with drugs.
“Drugs are one of the biggest contributing factors to crime in the area, with many users resorting to crime to feed their habit, but by working together police, other agencies and communities can take steps to restrict the supply of drugs and, in turn, reduce crime.”
Although Cheshire Police are committed to taking action against those involved with drugs, they use partner agencies to help people from re-offending.
Martin Barber, Partnership Inspector for Warrington, said: “Support is available for those affected by drug misuse from a variety of access points, including police custody suites, to treatment services such as Warrington Substance Misuse Service, Trust the Process and Phaze. The services help address drug addiction and reduce offending which is often associated with drug misuse.
“If you or someone you know has a problem with drugs, please remember that you are not alone. You can ring the Warrington Substance Misuse Service on 01925 415176 or call the 24 hour emergency helpline on 07919 558 644.”
