AN investigation has been launched at Warrington as to why some electors have not received their polling cards – and may not do so in time for tomorrow’s borough council elections.
Town Hall chiefs have reacted swiftly after receiving a number of calls from residents concerned because they have not received their cards.
The investigation involves Town Hall staff and the Post Office but at the moment it is not known how many polling cards may have not reached their destinations.
A borough council spokeswoman said: “We want to let people know they can still take part in the election even without a polling card.
“All they have to do is go to their local polling station. We advise people to take some kind of ID but it is not essential.
“Many people across the borough still haven’t received their cards in the post, with some unlikely to arrive before Thursday.”
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.
More information about polling stations can be obtained from the election office on 01925 442 184, email elections@warrington.go.uk, or by logging on to www.warrington.gov.uk/council/elections.
A full list of stations throughout the borough is available for viewing at the Town Hall reception and the council’s contact centre in Horsemarket Street.
Sixty five candidates will be seeking election with the Liberal-Democrats and Labour contesting every seat and the Conservatives every seat but Orford, where an Independent is standing. The Green Party is fielding six candidates and the British National Party two.
