A SECOND youth convicted of the murder of Garry Newlove has lodged an appeal.
Stephen Sorton, 17, from Warrington has applied for leave to appeal against his 15-year minimum life sentence.
Last month, Adam Swellings, 19, the ringleader of the gang that attacked Mr Newlove, of Padgate, also made an application for leave to appeal against his conviction and sentence.
He received a 17-year minimum life sentence.
A third defendant, Jordan Cunliffe, 16, formerly of Warrington, was also jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years for Mr Newlove’s murder. As yet he has not applied for leave to appeal.
Mr Newlove, 47, left his home at Padgate on August 10 last year to remonstrate with a gang who had damaged his wife’s car.
He was kicked “like a football” in front of his terrified wife and daughters, the court was told. He died in hospital two days later.
