A STORM has broken over plans to demolish an old farmhouse to make way for a 50-bed care home at Lymm.
Part of the development at Red Cott Farm, in Booths Hill Road, Lymm would be on Green Belt land – but 90 per cent of new building would be on brownfield land.
The scheme would involve demolition of the farmhouse, two stables and a barn.
More than 20 nearby residents are strongly opposing the scheme – as is Lymm Parish Council.
They say the development by Barchester Healthcare Ltd would have a damaging impact on the Green Belt, would have serious highway safety implications and represents over-development of the site.
They also believe inadequate car parking is proposed and that nearby homes will lose privacy. There would also be damage to wildlife habitats.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved. Although part of the scheme involves Green Belt land, this area would be used only for tree planting, a pond and a path. The nearest house is more than 50 metres away.
The home would provide residential and nursing care for frail, elderly people, with 50 en-suite bedrooms and communal facilities including a kitchen, day rooms and sitting areas.
