Sixth form college opens tomorrow

WARRINGTON’S new sixth form college for students with special educational needs is to officially open tomorrow (Friday).
The Mayor, Cllr Peter Carey, will join parents and students at Woolston Sixth Form College at 1pm.
The first of its kind in the borough, the college is the first phase in the Woolston Learning Village development, an £8 million site for children with special educational needs.
Warrington’s existing SEN schools, Fox Wood and Green Lane, will come together on the same site as the college and their head teachers, Karen Nicholls and Paul King, will welcome parents, councillors, staff and pupils to the opening ceremony.
The director of families and wellbeing at the borough council, Kath O’Dwyer, will then invite the Mayor to unveil a plaque and there will be a tour of the building.
Around 30 students are already learning on site and later this year they will be joined by all remaining pupils from Fox Wood and Green Lane when the new facilities for both schools open in September.
The college will cater for young people with special education needs aged 16 and above.
