This autumn, the World Airsports Federation ran its 111th General Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland. During October 22-28, as the FAI’s highest authority, the Conference accepted numerous guests from all over the world, including honoured patrons, associates, sponsors, and delegates. This event was meant to bring everyone involved in air sports together for cooperation and fruitful discussions on the federation’s course for the coming year. Since Noosphere Ventures is an important technical partner of the FAI, its representatives, headed by Max Polyakov, were invited to attend the conference.

General overview / How it went

The seven days of the FAI Conference were well-orchestrated and involved a variety of meetings. On the offered events list were:

– FAI workshops and discussions

– the Executive Board Meeting

– General sessions

– the Commission President’s Group Meeting

– Social activities

– the FAI Awards Ceremony

The overall atmosphere during the general sessions and workshops gave a boost to discussions that touched upon important topics. Most of them concerned air sports, the IT influence on it, the latest innovations, and the drone invasion, as well as anti-doping measures. There were many speakers, like Erick Wolf, a Red Bull Air Race representative, and Magdi El Derini, an Egyptian Deputy Ambassador in Switzerland.

Yuriy Letser, a representative from Max Polyakov’s Noosphere Ventures also had an opportunity to speak. He introduced a new innovation called eNavigator (the “e” letter in the name refers to electronics and event). The tool provides a scope of functions needed for managing and hosting sports events, from the creation of a website and scheduling, to communication and tracking of the athletes’ results.

Once the discussions ended, the overall flow of the conference led to voting and subsequent decision making. As a result, it was decided that the 1st World Drone Racing Championships would be held in November 2018, in Shenzhen, China. As for the 113th FAI General Conference, it will be organized in 2019 in Marrakech, Morocco.

Flash-Back on the Award Ceremony

The 111th FAI GC wouldn’t get complete without the highly anticipated FAI Awards Ceremony. It was a special part for many guests, as well as for Nooshepere Ventures, since its managing partner, Max Polyakov was nominated for an award. At the ceremony, Frits Brink, the FAI President, awarded Max Polyakov with FAI Companion of Honour. This is a special award that is granted for the prominent service provided to the FAI.

The honour authorises Max Polyakov to participate in the annual General Conference, which is a private event. More to it, this is a great opportunity to work more closely with other delegates, and make close connections with world leaders in air sports. In addition to this, the managing partner of Noosphere Ventures now will have the opportunity to be elected to the FAI Awards Advisory Group. This group is eligible to make suggestions and provide recommendations to the FAI Executive Board concerning the matters of FAI awards.

Upon accepting the award, Max Polyakov commented on the lasting relationship with the FAI and future cooperation of FAI and Noosphere Ventures. He also expressed his gratitude for the recognition of the contribution made to air sports development. It has been 4 years since Noosphere and the FAI started working together. This year, Noosphere Ventures became the FAI’s Global Technical Partner and took part in various events. Among the latest ones were the student hackathon “Best Deviсe For FAI”, hosted in May, and the Drone Racing World Cup in the F3U class held in September this year.
