Riding For Change

On 20th September 2017 a group of people from in and around Warrington and Runcorn will be embarking on a 300-mile bike ride from London to Paris, raising money the Moore Foundation – a local children’s charity trust.

The Moore Foundation are partnering with four local charities – Brainwave, Hand on Heart, Warrington Youth Club and paralympian Adrian Derbyshire’s #SASSY programme (Support Against Self Harm & Suicide in Youth).

The bike ride is the brainchild of three local businesses, Assured Wealth, Health Enrich and Moore Finance. Mark Jones, Zoe Lancaster and Nigel Garner were looking to make a difference in their local community, wanted a challenge and an opportunity to meet lots of like-minded individuals.

Over the coming 12 months the three businesses will work with the charities to coordinate the ride with Chapeau Events, recruit riders, plan fundraising activities and events, organise training rides and raise awareness in the community.

Starting in London, covering just over 300 miles, the 4 day route goes through some glorious undulating countryside on route to the ferry from Dover to Calais. Once ‘French side’, the group will cycle along quiet country lanes, through traditional market towns with views of the rolling green hills of Northern France.

The pièce de résistance is ultimately the spectacular view of the 324-metre Eiffel Tower, marking the ride’s overwhelming finish and certainly evoking a huge sense of achievement, not to mention those unforgettable memories.

Zoe Lancaster, Managing Director of Health Enrich, said: “Whether you are a regular cyclist or simply a novice, as long as you are willing to train, then this event is perfect for you, as Chapeau Events cater for all levels of ability.”

The organisers will be running a 16-week cycle training program in 2017 in conjunction with Livewire in Warrington.

The programme will cover technique, riding safely in pairs, fitness and nutrition and short and long distance practice days in the run up to the event. This is in place to take a novice on a bike to the finish line in Paris.

In order for the maximum amount of funds to be raised, the organisers are offering an amazing chance for one rider to win £2,000 worth of goods from Cyclehouse in Warrington.

Mark Jones, Director of Assured Wealth, said: “To win the voucher, you have to raise the most money of any individual riding on the event. The Moore Foundation will then present the winner with their prize at our black tie awards dinner in November 2017.”

The organisers are holding a launch event on Saturday 8th October 2016 to tell people about the ride, explain the logistics and training plans, share fundraising ideas and events over the next year and meet the organisers and individuals from the charities.

The event will start at 12 midday will be held in the Lewis Carroll Suite, Orford Jubilee building.

Nigel Garner, Managing Director of Moore Finance, said: “We want to get as many people to the launch event as possible so that we can give people enough information and motivation to get them on the ride. The more the merrier.”
